StoryBrand.ai Review: An Honest Take from One of the First Certified Guides

Last updated: July 2026

Artificial intelligence is everywhere right now. If you’re like me, your feelings about it are mixed.

On the one hand, I’ve spent time with ChatGPT and Claude, and they have been game-changers for my workflow. I’ve mastered prompts, built Projects, and found ways to make AI genuinely useful, and even let it tackle some of the more tedious writing tasks in my business. On the other hand, AI has its downsides, and I can’t help but wonder where this all leads.

For context, I’ve been a StoryBrand Certified Guide since 2016, one of the first in the program. I’ve worked with hundreds of businesses to clarify their messaging, build high-converting marketing assets, and create content that truly connects with their audiences. I’ve seen firsthand what works—and what doesn’t—when it comes to applying the StoryBrand framework.

So when StoryBrand launched an AI tool built around the framework I know inside and out, I had to put it to the test. How well does it work? Where does it help? Where does it fall short?

After spending time testing StoryBrand.ai, here’s my honest take.

The Four Main Features of StoryBrand.ai

StoryBrand.ai has four key features, which I think of in two categories:

The essential tools:

  • Create an Individual Asset
  • Create a Campaign

And the bonus tools:

  • Ask Any Question
  • Blank Canvas

The best feature by far is Create a Campaign. (More on that later.)

But first, here’s a quick look at the bonus tools.

Bonus Tool: Ask Any Question

This tool works a lot like ChatGPT. You can ask marketing-related questions, brainstorm ideas, generate outlines, and even get summaries of Building a StoryBrand.

Why it’s useful:

It’s great for quick brainstorming and content ideas.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Just like ChatGPT, it pulls information from the internet, so fact-checking is a must.
  • It doesn’t seem as advanced as ChatGPT (yet), but I was told it was built on the same technology, so I expect it to improve over time.
  • If you’re already paying for ChatGPT, this may or may not replace it. It really depends on how you use AI in your work.

Bonus Tool: Blank Canvas

This tool lets you write freely with an AI-powered chat box alongside your document. Think of it like ChatGPT inside a Google Doc—you don’t have to switch tabs while writing.

Why it’s useful:

It’s handy for brainstorming, drafting, and organizing ideas all in one place.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Like Ask Any Question, it’s more of a general AI tool than a deeply StoryBrand-specific one.
  • You’ll still need to refine and edit responses before they’re ready to use.

Essential Tool: Create an Individual Asset

This feature generates standalone marketing assets—like a single email, social media post, or sales pitch—without requiring a full BrandScript.

Why it’s useful:

It’s a fast way to generate content when you just need something small.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Since it’s not tied to a full BrandScript, it won’t give you the same consistency across your messaging.
  • The copy it generates is solid but a bit generic. You’ll still need to rewrite a lot of it to make it sound like you.

Essential Tool: Create a Campaign

This is where StoryBrand.ai is the most useful. It creates a set of marketing assets—like website copy, lead magnets, and sales emails—based on a BrandScript you build inside the tool.

How it works:

  1. You answer a few questions about your business and offer.
  2. StoryBrand.ai generates a BrandScript for you.
  3. You review and refine your BrandScript. (Don’t skip this step!)
  4. Once it’s solid, you can generate assets like:

  • Taglines
  • One-liners
  • Homepage wireframes
  • Sales emails
  • Lead generators
  • Social media captions
  • Product descriptions
  • And more

Why it’s useful:

If you need consistent messaging across multiple platforms, this tool is a great shortcut.

Things to keep in mind:

  • If you have multiple audiences or offers, you’ll need to create a separate campaign (and BrandScript) for each.
  • The stronger your BrandScript, the better your campaign will be. Taking the time to get this right is key.

Pricing

At launch, StoryBrand.ai had a free version that let you create a BrandScript and tagline. To unlock everything else, it required a subscription:

  • $49.99/month for full access
  • $39/month if billed annually

My Honest Take

It’s a strong start. StoryBrand.ai is a great tool, but it’s not plug-and-play. The hardest part of writing is often the blank screen, and this tool helps you move past that straight to editing. That said, the output can feel generic, so you’ll need to fine-tune it to match your brand voice.

It’s user-friendly. The interface is clean and organized, making it easy to use. Unlike some AI tools that require a lot of back-and-forth, this one keeps everything in one place.

It may be worth the investment. The price is competitive, and Create a Campaign alone makes it valuable. Depending on how you use it, you might also be able to drop your ChatGPT subscription and just use this. Though, I think most probably will need both.

It can be a time-saver. For foundational work—like writing website copy or sales emails—I’d still recommend investing in professional help. But for lower-stakes tasks (like social posts or lead magnets), StoryBrand.ai speeds up the process.

So, What’s Next?

Or to put it another way: Is AI taking my job?

Not quite. StoryBrand.ai is a great tool, but it only gives you a bit of a running start. The content it generates is helpful, but to make it truly work for your brand, you’ll still need to heavily edit and refine it.

If you’re planning to use StoryBrand.ai, here’s what I recommend:

  1. Start with a solid BrandScript. This is the foundation for everything else. If you want to get it right, from the start, I recommend booking a Planning Call with me. After the call, you’ll receive a one-page brand narrative written by me. It’s your BrandScript, told as a story, that introduces your brand to your audience. I sell it as a first step towards website copywriting, but you can stop after that step if you choose to do so.

  2. Use StoryBrand.ai for lower-stakes content. For quick marketing materials—like blogs, emails, and social posts—it’s a great time saver. Just know that you’ll need to heavily revise the output before publishing.

  3. Reach out when you need help. If you’re stuck on messaging or need a professional review, I’m here to help. Whether it’s coaching or content review, I’ll make sure your final copy is polished and ready to go. This works best if we do #1 together.

Not sure what mix is right for you?

Final Thoughts

AI is changing the way we work, and StoryBrand.ai is an exciting tool in that space. Like any new technology, there’s a learning curve, but if you use it wisely, it can be a powerful addition to your marketing toolkit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About StoryBrand.ai

Is StoryBrand.ai worth the investment?

It depends on how you plan to use it. If you understand the StoryBrand framework and need a tool to generate content quickly, StoryBrand.ai can be a valuable resource. It’s especially useful for small business owners and marketers who want to create cohesive campaigns without starting from scratch.

However, it’s not a plug-and-play solution. The AI-generated copy still requires heavy editing to match your brand’s voice and tone. If you’re expecting a fully polished final product that doesn’t need any revision, you will be disappointed.

What types of content can StoryBrand.ai generate?

At the time of writing this post, StoryBrand.ai can create a variety of marketing assets, including:

  • BrandScripts
  • Taglines
  • One-liners
  • Website wireframes (homepages only)
  • Lead generator ideas
  • Lead generating PDFs
  • Sales talking points
  • Sales emails
  • Nurture emails
  • Product or service names
  • Product or service descriptions
  • Packaging copy
  • Domain name suggestions
  • Video scripts
  • Social Media post ideas & captions
  • Brand or product stories

The platform is expected to expand its offerings over time.

How accurate is the content StoryBrand.ai produces?

StoryBrand.ai does a good job following the StoryBrand framework, but like all AI-generated content, the quality of the output depends on the quality of the input. If your BrandScript is clear and well-developed, the content will be more effective.

That said, AI-generated writing often sounds generic or formulaic. It can be a strong starting point, but it still requires a human touch to refine it, ensure accuracy, and add the nuances that make a brand stand out.

How much editing does StoryBrand.ai content need?

The short answer: It varies.

For smaller, less visible assets, like internal talking points or rough drafts of social media posts, you might be able to use the content with minimal tweaks. But for public-facing assets, like websites, lead generators, and email campaigns, it’s best to refine the copy before publishing.

Editing is especially important when:

  • The tone doesn’t match your brand’s voice.
  • The copy sounds too generic or repetitive.
  • The messaging needs more specificity to resonate with your audience.

Who benefits most from using StoryBrand.ai?

StoryBrand.ai is best for business owners, marketers, and entrepreneurs who:

  • Already understand the StoryBrand framework and want a tool to help them implement it more efficiently.
  • Need a structured way to create marketing content, but don’t have the budget to hire a copywriter.
  • Are comfortable refining AI-generated content to make it sound more natural and brand-aligned.

It’s a great fit for DIY marketers who are strong writers and want to move faster. Keep in mind, though, that for businesses that need a high level of customization and strategy, hiring a StoryBrand-trained writer is still the best option.

If I use StoryBrand.ai, do I still need a StoryBrand Coach or copywriter?

That depends on how confident you are in your messaging. StoryBrand.ai helps generate content quickly, but it won’t replace the strategic thinking and fine-tuning that come from working with a human expert.

For business owners who are comfortable refining their own messaging, StoryBrand.ai is a great tool. But if you find yourself second-guessing your answers, struggling with clarity, or wanting to ensure your messaging is as effective as possible, working with a StoryBrand Coach or copywriter can save time and provide peace of mind.

What’s the best way to use StoryBrand.ai effectively?

To get the most out of StoryBrand.ai:

  • Invest time in your BrandScript—The stronger your inputs, the better your outputs.
  • Use it for first drafts—Let AI get the words on the page, then refine them to make the copy truly yours.
  • Prioritize high-quality assets—Use StoryBrand.ai for quick-turn projects, like social media and blog outlines, but consider professional input for cornerstone assets, like BrandScripts, websites, and lead generators.
  • Don’t rely on it blindly—AI is a great assistant, but human judgment is key to making the content truly resonate.

Hi, I’m Angie.

I had worked in marketing as a copywriter and communication strategist for about a decade before I attended one of the first StoryBrand workshops. When Donald Miller broke down the framework, it brought tears to my eyes (no joke, I had to leave the room).

Finally, I had structure to help audiences feel heard, validated, and hopeful about solutions that could genuinely make their lives better. I could trade what often felt like trickery for clarity… and tactics for authenticity.

It’s been years since then, and I still haven’t gotten off the StoryBrand copywriting train. As part of the inaugural certification cohort, I am one of three Guides who have practiced StoryBrand copywriting the longest and have had the honor of working with hundreds of businesses and organizations along the way.
